How to make over $1,000/day on Fiverr or Upwork

In this blog, I am going to explain how I went from $0 to making over $1,000 per day on Fiverr after they take their 20%. I have been freelance writing for nearly 8-years and started with just $5 orders on Fiverr. I scaled my business up, opened more services, and now manage a freelancing business that spans across Fiverr, Legiit, LinkedIn, and my personal email.

It took me about 3-years to reach my first $1,000/day on Fiverr, which is not long at all if you want to make that kind of money. When I first got on Fiverr, I never imagined it could make me this much money, period. I thought I’d make 20 to 30k per year, and I was happy with that. I was certainly wrong, so I am going to provide an overview of exactly how I’m able to have back to back $1,000 days on a freelancing site.

Step 1: Put a ton of effort into the branding of your profile.

When I say branding, I mean the photos you use, the templates you use for your gig images, and your profile picture. Everything should be clean, crisp, and resembling one another for cohesiveness. Have multiple photos of yourself showing so people know who you are. Pick ONE template that you use in Canva for all of your gig images so it looks like one coordinated storefront. People want to feel like they are perusing a quality profile before they spend their money.

Step 2: Max out the add-ons you have available inside of the gigs.

(I explain this in-depth inside of this YouTube video)

Step 3: Be aggressive telling potential clients about bundled deals that you offer.

I do this by telling them I’m offering 4 blogs for the price of 3. You can do this with anything, whether it’s consultations or app builds. People love to think they are saving money.

Step 4: Work hard to get 5-star reviews.

After hitting Level 2 on Fiverr, which can be done in your first 6-months, apply to Fiverr PRO. Fiverr PRO is the top 1% of the Fiverr platform. If you’re not accepted in, you can always apply again. So don’t worry about not getting in. Once accepted in, you will be encouraged to charge what comes to around $150/hour for your time. The $1,000 then becomes incredibly attainable with Fiverr PRO. With just 5 Fiverr PRO gigs, and an account manager who will be working with you to ensure they look great and are priced well, working around 5 to 7 hours per day will make you more than $1,000/month.

For those that can’t get into Fiverr PRO, $1,000 per day is still possible. You may have to pull out the stops a little more, and have at least 8 available gigs on your profile. These gigs should all fall into one category. Fiverr kindly lists the most to least popular categories on their website from left to right on the home page. Staying in the first 5 categories will ensure more traffic and make that $1,000/day attainable. Working hard for good reviews and customer service can still make Top Rated Seller possible, which is another high distinction. TRS charge a ton as well. Obviously, the golden ticket is both Top Rated Seller and Fiverr PRO simultaneously, which is possible.

Step 5: Once you get a good base down on Fiverr, even if it’s not $1,000/day, you can use other freelancing sites to ensure you are hitting that mark.

I recommend Legiit, Upwork, LinkedIn, and Facebook Groups. You can source your own jobs through these site and process them through Contra, which is free to do. Contra is great place to host your portfolio as well to show prospective clients.

With all of these things together, you can absolutely reach a $30,000/month freelancing. Is this possible your first day freelancing? Of course not. But I have had people on my podcast who crossed $100,000 their very first year freelancing - check season 2, which I will link here. So I am not saying this is the norm in your first year, but if you want to go balls to the wall, then it certainly can be.

My final bonus tips for being a freelancer worthy of $1,000/day: go above and beyond with client communication. The more you talk to them, the more they tip. Have the Fiverr app downloaded to your phone so you can answer clients on the go. And be very transparent in your questionnaire about what you do and do not offer. Clients don’t like surprises. The more 5-star reviews you get, the more Fiverr will push you out in their algorithm.
