How to make more money on Fiverr as a new seller

Let’s talk about the best ways to get ahead of the competition on Fiverr. Both Fiverr and Upwork, as well as the tons of other freelancing platforms out there, are free to use. That’s one of the main reasons I promote them - I am not being paid by them to promote them. I am just sharing one of the best ways in 2022 you can be making money at home or anywhere in the world.

So when it comes to getting started on Fiverr, you want to set up your profile as if you’re on LinkedIn. Even though Fiverr is anonymous, you want to treat it like it’s not. Showing yourself, your personality, and your image is one of the fastest ways to build trust with clients. They need to feel like you’re a real person on the other end of the profile. The more quickly they feel like your friend, the more quickly they are going to buy from you.

Hack #1: That is one of the main reasons my first hack for you is to be very generous with the different photos you post of yourself. You want there to be at least 5 different photos of you for people to see. Why?

  • Confirms you’re a real person

  • Fiverr has a spammer problem, lots of people pretending to be other people

  • Having real photos that clearly aren’t stock photos subliminally wins over trust

  • It also shows you’re serious about your Fiverr and this isn’t some haphazard side hustle that you don’t care about

  • People want to think this is your full-time gig, even if it isn’t

Hack #2: My next hack is to have at least three samples of your portfolio already uploaded and available for clients to see. You can upload these projects to your profile, as well as inside of the gig. Having at least three will ensure you beat out all of the other new people with no samples uploaded.

  • “But how do I get samples if I’ve never done this work before?”

Two ways: do free work for friends/family OR do spec pieces. This is when you pretend a client booked you. If you do have actual samples, be sure to check with people if you can use their business name or not. I am going to be releasing a mini masterclass on this specifically that goes over this in detail for everyone who is asking.

The more samples of your work, the more people are going to trust you. They don’t care where or if you went to school or how long you have been doing this. They want to see a cold hard example of your work, presented right to them.

  • “But where do I host the portfolio?”

Nowhere! You upload it right into Fiverr as a PDF. Super simple. If you want a portfolio off of Fiverr, consider using Contra. They are a 0% commission freelancing site that I currently work with.

Hack #3: My next hack for you guys is to make sure you open at least three gigs when starting out. Why? It makes your profile appear as a storefront. It makes you look legitimate, like you’ve been doing this for awhile. Again, people don’t want to think you’re haphazardly doing this. One of the best ways to look professional immediately is to have some kind of branding to the profile.

To do this, go to Canva and find a template you like. Size it to Fiverr dimensions 550 x 370 pixels. Whatever template you pick, use it for ALL of you gig photos. This gives consistency to your profile while also providing some variation. (Show Georgia example)

This little extra step might take an hour max and can really go a long way in attracting clients. Just like you pay attention o YouTube thumbnails, the same thing happens on Fiverr. You have to stand out and grab people’s attention. You MUST show yourself with eyes, smiling etc. People connect to pEOPLE. Many studies have been done on this.

Hack #4: My final 2022 hack that you don’t want to pass up is using the Buyer Request portal on Fiverr. This isa job board hidden inside of Fiverr. You can send out dozens of proposals each day. Are they low budget? Yes. Will they get you 50 5-star reviews more quickly, yes! This is all about keeping your head down for a few months to have a lifetime of financial freedom. It takes juts a few months of working really, really hard. But it is SO worth it. I never want to pretend that this is easy at first.

While using Buyer Request, post about your newfound services on LinkedIn, Medium, and your other social media. Let people know you are in business. Be proud of it! I was afraid to do this at first - so silly. You can drive your own traffic to your profile more efficiently than you think you can.

Bonus hack: PLEASEEE read the terms of service on each of these sites. Some of them have funny rules. For example, on Fiverr, delivering impartial work can get you kicked off of it. You want to be sure to follow their rules so you don’t have any situation on your hands. You also can’t share your personal contact information with clients. Things like that.

Give yourself time to adjust to this way of doing business. It may feel foreign at first, but the skills you’re going to develop are going to be transferrable to everything. From customer service and understanding people, to closing sales and maintaining client satisfaction, all of it is going to be literally invaluable. You’re going to be so much more desirable if you take any future job.
