Deciding on what to do if too many things attract you

(Transcribed from the Freelance Fairytales Podcast)

I relate to this conundrum more than you guys probably know. Ever since I was little, I have had a million interests all at once. I have wanted to be the president, I’ve wanted to go into the military, I’ve wanted to be a painter, I’ve wanted to be in musical theater, I’ve wanted to run a business, be a writer, be an author, have an animal sanctuary, become a DJ, and even voice animated characters - a new dream of mine is to be a Miss Frizzle animation voice. I have new interests all the time, every single day. I have so many things I want to do on this planet because I allow my imagination to think that way. I give my brain permission to want to learn everything. I don’t shut anything down. That comes from a place of positive self talk and telling yourself that you can do anything you set your mind to.

But I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about how this can be a curse, too. Well, not really a curse; it’s truly a blessing. But it can make it hard to hone in on what’s really right for you in the moment. I believe we are all born with multiple divine purposes that we are going to live out over the course of our lives. Just because you’re working a 9 to 5 now doesn’t mean you’re not going to own a nonprofit in 20 years. You can choose to be anything you want at any time.

Focusing down enough to know what you should be doing right now is actually very much an energetic concern. The answer to this question comes purely from being in touch with the flow of energy and the signs around you that indicate what it is that God wants you to be doing at this time. As such, this podcast is now going to veer off more into the world of mindset and energy exchanges. You guys ready?

When I quit my job in 2015, I had no idea what I was going to do. I was at rock bottom in so many ways, so I didn’t have any pride. I was ready to receive whatever the world wanted to give to me, because I was willing to quite literally do anything but work at that job. At the time, I was still new to christianity and didn’t really know how to chat with God yet. But looking back, I can see how spiritual the entire thing was, and that I was unknowingly allowing God to lead me right where I am today. I came on my knees essentially, with no plan. I was desperate. I was ready for whatever came my way and I was going to be grateful for it. I tried so many different things and none of them really stuck. But Fiverr, it had always been there in the background, humming along. I was doing tiny editing orders. And one night when I came home, I swear, I looked under my bed at my MacBook and I felt like it was glowing. Like it wanted me to pick it up and open it. And I did, I opened my laptop and boom, there was fiverr, if I can remember, it was on a website I had opened. It was just staring at me. It was really insane and I was like ok God, if you’re real, I will take this as a sign from you. I now know God is very, very real and talk with him daily, but back then, I was still skeptical to it all.

But I swear that laptop was glowing. So I opened it, I followed the Fiverr lead, and BOOM, the next day a person had already messaged me for an order. And then another one, and another one, and the rest is history. The last 8-years of my life has been this flow of abundance to me through my laptop or phone because I go where I am energetically called. If I don’t feel happy or right doing something, I quit it. Like me and Airbnb didn’t vibe at all. So I quit after a few months. It has to feel right. Now that doesn’t mean you can’t be putting the work in, though. A lot of people think they can manifest by just dreaming and sitting around. It’s half and half. God will meet you halfway. He doesn’t need you to destroy your health or life chasing a dream. But he does want to see that you want it and are willing to work for you. He will reward you with it when he sees that from you.

We All Have Multiple Divine Purposes

Now, that doesn’t mean Fiverr is going to be my eternity. I don’t believe it will be. But I am so grateful for what it’s done for me that I am constantly open and available for anything else God wants to bring my way. If he decides he wants me to be a professor next year and that opportunity clearly funnels to me through my email inbox, I am going to take it. I let God know daily I am open to whatever he wants to send my way. God loves that. He loves when we drop our own pride and come to him with an open heart.

Now, if you’re shaking your head right now going Alex God isn’t real, I am not trying to convert you. You can call him the universe if you want. I call him God because I have seen him and know him to be God. The point of this podcast more so is to allow yourself to surrender into the ephemeral energy that is so much bigger than you. Yes we’re all just little specs down here, but really we’re part of this huge energetic universal fabric. We create ripples. We receive ripples from other specs. If we open up our eyes and reach into that energy, think of it as a blanket floating above your head at all times, it’s always going to be there for you, and more importantly, it’s always going to be abundant. God doesnt want you to live a miserable existence at all - he wants you to be happy. He wants you to reach into this abundance. Our society has lost sight of this power of energy more than ever today. We’re at our most technologically advanced, yet spiritually immature than ever before. When I read books even from the 1960s or 70s, its night and day how. Much we’ve lost track of God and spirituality and the flow of energy today. It’s why I fervently believe so many people feel so incredibly lost and unhappy and anxious. They’re living in a world in which they’ve told themselves there is no God and there is no point to any of this. I don’t know how I could go if I thought like that!

My challenge to them would be, if there is not point to all of this, then why is there a planet of energetic abundance enveloping this earth that every human being can benefit from when they want to? Surely someone is looking out for you. I don’t mean to start an argument on this topic, but I am just here to pique some interest or spur some curiosity. People used to be able to do that all of the time in the past - today they’re canceled for it. Being curious is a beautiful thing.

Shift Your Awareness to the Present Moment

So how do you start getting in touch with the universe so you know what’s the next right thing for you today? My first piece of advice is to start shifting your brain to the present moment. Start noticing the sights, sounds, and smells of everything happening right now. Put the phone down. Read more books. Play less video games. Watch the sun set for 30 minutes alone. Go out into nature. Exercise and breathe. Go on a walk without your phone. Really center yourself in the here and now. You’ll start to pick up on synchronicities you never noticed before. YOu’ll start to see patterns and eventually, you’ll notice signs from the heavens. Give yourself some time with this. Work on your mindset and self talk. Tell yourself you’re worthy of abundance and good things. You have a purpose and a point here. You have something you’re talented at. You’ve been divinely created and that’s something to celebrate. Ask God or the universe, when you are ready, to show you a clear sign of what it is you are meant to do. He always answers when I ask this question. Be present and look for his response. Look for the glowing laptop. When it’s made known, it might not be something you had in mind. And guess what? That’s ok because if God wants you to do it, then it’s going to fill you with so much happiness and satisfaction, you won’t know what to do. Think of it as an exciting divine journey, and you’re the main character. Have fun with it and surrender to what is really meant for you.

Whoa that one just flowed right out of me haha! That’s how it should feel - like an effortless flow. Don’t fight what’s not meant for you. Be open to trying 10 different things if that’s what it takes. It’s worth it to step into what was always meant for you - take it from me.
